Description

Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. This is the ONLY example graded at this level by PSA with none higher! Superb high-grade example of star first baseman Hal Chase of the New York Highlanders (later became the Yankees) from the rare and highly regarded PC805 postcard set issued by the Novelty Cutlery Co. of Canton, Ohio, in 1910. These ornately bordered postcards are one of the most striking and distinctive sets of the era. All Novelty Cutlery postcards are extremely rare and high-grade examples are even scarcer. A quick look at the PSA Population Report lists, of the 136 Novelty Cutlery postcards evaluated by PSA to date, only eleven cards in total (of any player) have ever received a grade of EX-MT 6, with only two examples graded higher (both EX-MT + 6.5). This gem falls short of Near Mint because of a touch of light wear on the upper right corner. Bright, crisp, and clean, with outstanding image quality. The card has never been mailed and has no writing on its traditional postcard reverse. Chase was, in fact, a major star of the day, but his involvement with gambling and unsavory characters undermined his legend, and ensured that he would forever remain a "non-Hall of Famer." This is a stunning and rare card of one of the era's most legendary stars. Dimensions: 3.5 x 5.5 inches.
