Complete set of this beautiful full-color classic 1940s “girlie” issue, entirely graded and encapsulated by PSA. In 1944, Gum, Inc. issued cards featuring beautiful pinup artwork by the top illustrators of the day in the style of arcade cards of the era. The public’s appetite for pinup art exploded during this era, with images by artists such as Gil Elvgren, Zoe Mozert, and Earl Moran appearing on everything from matchbook covers to ink blotters to calendars. To avoid potential criticism from the general public, Gum, Inc., sold these very risqué cards in tobacco stores, rather than in candy stores where kids frequently visited. This very attractive set is crisp and clean, with vibrant colors. PSA Grading Composite: NM-MT+ 8.5 (1 card): Caught in the Draft. NM-MT 8 (10 cards): A Good Hook-Up, Forced Landing, Just the Type, No Stares!, On De-Fence, Peek A View, Playing Safe, Sport Model, Sure Shot, and Thar She Blows. NM+ 7.5 (2 cards): A Peek-A'-Knees and A Perfect Pair. NM 7 (11 cards): A Live Wire, Ankle Aweigh, Figures Don't Lie, Foil Proof, Free Wheeling, French Dressing, Miss-Placed Confidence, Out on a Limb, Short on Sails, Sitting Pretty, and Weight Control. Total: 24 cards. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
