Extremely rare collection of seventy-nine different Indianapolis 500 Pit Badges, representing a complete run from 1947 to 2025. As a collection unto itself or as the foundation for assemblage of a world-class complete run from all years, this is an extremely sharp-looking group including all of the many highlights from the early years. These metal pit badges have been issued by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1938. In 1947, the Speedway began issuing bronze and silver badges, with "Bronze" badges allowing gate and garage access, while the "Silver" badges also granted pit access. It should be noted that the early bronze badges were manufactured with true bronze until the company changed to bronze-colored pot metal during the late 1950s or early 1960s. The badges in this group were produced by Bastian Brothers or the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation. Each badge prominently displays the year of issue and the official badge number on the front. All are marked with the respective manufacturer on the reverse. Sizes vary, but all are approximately 1.5 to 2 inches. This is a beautiful group. All are in Excellent (or better) condition. This is the first collection of these badges that we have ever offered. Due to the rarity of the early years, very few complete sets have ever been assembled. Total: 79 metal badges. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
