Exceedingly rare Cleveland Indians program issued for the 1920 World Series against the Brooklyn Robins. This program is far rarer than its Brooklyn Robins counterpart. In fact, this is only the third example of this program that we have handled. The preprinted lineups include Wambsganss, Speaker, Smith, and Sewell for Cleveland, and Wheat, Olson, Myers, and Konetchy for Brooklyn. The Indians defeated the Robins five games to two in the Series (it was a best-of-nine affair). Today, the Series is best known for two famous firsts, each of which occurred in Game 5. In the first inning Indians outfielder Elmer Smith hit the first grand slam in Series play. Four innings later teammate Bill Wambsganss completed the only unassisted triple play in the history of the Fall Classic. The program (5.5 x 8.75 inches) displays a light crease on the front cover, a heavy crease on the back cover and several interior pages, a small piece of the lower-left corner on the back cover has torn and detached, and the program displays light to moderate toning on both covers. The program has been neatly scored in pencil but the cannot be attributed to any game in the 1920 World Series. It is possible it was scored at a later date for an exhibition game between the teams, but we cannot say for sure what match the scoring is attributed to. In Good condition overall.
