Description

Philadelphia Athletics regular-season program issued for a game against the New York Yankees held at Shibe Park in 1937. The preprinted lineups include Moses, Johnson, and Hayes for Philadelphia, and Gehrig, DiMaggio, Dickey, Lazzeri, Ruffing, Hadley, Crosetti, and Rolfe for New York. Neatly scored for both games of a September 6th doubleheader in pencil (for the first game) and black ink (for the second game). The Athletics would fall to the Yankees in both games. A five-run fourth inning, capped-off by Joe DiMaggio's three-run homer off Buck Ross, would propel the Yankees, who took game one by a score of 6-3. Lou Gehrig played an instrumental role in game two with a fourth-inning RBI, which would tie the game, and a sixth-inning run, which would secure the Yankees 2-1 win. Ultimately, the Yankees would finish the season with a 102-52 record, winning their ninth pennant and beating their crosstown rival Giants in the World Series for their sixth championship title. The program (6.75 x 11 inches) displays scattered creasing and a few small spots of paper loss on the front cover. In Good condition overall.
