Lot # 663: 1928 W502 #54 George Sisler SGC EX 60 - Rare Home Run Back

Graded EX 60 by SGC. Outstanding example of this rare St. Louis Browns Hall of Famer George Sisler card. While little is known about the W502 set with respect to its precise method of distribution, the cards can clearly be used to play a baseball card game (various game "plays" are listed on the reverse of each) and were likely produced as a promotional vehicle for merchants. The offered example displays a rarely seen "Home Run" reverse. This set very closely resembles several other issues from the same time period, including the Yuengling's, Tharp's, and Harrington's ice-cream sets. This diamond-cut example is crisp and clean with minimal corner wear. The reverse is entirely clean.
