Description

One-page handwritten letter signed by Jackie Robinson. In his undated letter, scripted in black ink on his personal letterhead, Robinson replies to his dear friend Ralph Norton (they met at Pasadena Junior College). In full: "Hello Ralph, It was nice hearing from you after the season has been completed. I just told my little boy about the book and he said thank you very much. I told him and he said 'that will be very nice.' My Program is really o.k. and we have had some of the top guest in sports. It really has turned out swell and I am looking forward to more time with the radio. Glad to see that you are doing o.k. with the new job but I hope you will be able to come around once in awhile any way. We have just started to purchase a home so I probably will be moving in a few weeks but until then I can be contacted at this same address. My regards to your family. Hope to see you soon. Your book sounds interesting will look forward to seeing it. always just, Jack [signed]." Although the letter is undated, it is accompanied by the original mailing envelope postmarked "Feb 13 1949." The 1949 season marked Robinson's MVP year. The letter (7 x 9-7/8 inches, visible dimensions) displays two horizontal mailing folds, as well as a few light creases. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. The envelope (7.5 x 4 inches) displays light soiling and moderate creasing (Fr). Total: 2 items (letter and mailing envelope). Matted and framed, together with a photo of Robinson (modern print), to total dimensions of 23 x 16 inches. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
