Offered is a complete set of fifty-two 1951 Topps "Blue Backs." The 1951 "Blue Backs" set is extremely significant as it was the first major baseball-card set ever issued by Topps, along with the similarly styled "Red Backs" set. Includes three duplicates (#25, 28, and 52). Condition is 32% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including a couple Mint), 44% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 24% Vg to Vg-Ex (including two Gd). Three cards have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA. Keys: #1 Yost (Ex), 3 Ashburn (Vg-Ex), 6 Schoendienst (Vg-Ex+), 9 Sain (Ex), 10 Page (Ex), 20 Branca (Nr/Mt), 25 Mele (NM 7), 28 Brecheen (MINT 9), 30 Slaughter (Ex), 37 Doerr (Nr/Mt+), 39 Lopat (Nr/Mt), 45 Pierce (Ex), 50 Mize (Ex), and two 52 Chapman (EX 5 and Vg). This is a very attractive mid- to high-grade complete set! The 1951 "Blue Backs" Topps set is among the most significant, yet overlooked, of all early Topps cards, and in our opinion represents an extraordinary value. Total: 55 cards (set of 52 plus three duplicates).
