Description

Complete 1951 Topps "Red Backs" set of fifty-two cards. The landmark "Red Backs" set is extremely significant as this was one of the first major baseball-card sets ever issued by Topps. Condition is 19% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt (including a couple Nr/Mt-Mt), 21% Vg-Ex to Ex, 46% Gd to Vg, and 14% lesser. Three cards have been professionally graded and encapsulated by SGC. Keys: #1 Berra (Fr), 5 Rizzuto (Fr), 6 Reynolds (Vg), 8 Wynn (Gd due to light tape residue on reverse), 15 Kiner (Gd), 20 D. DiMaggio (Vg), 22 Feller (Gd+), 30 Spahn (VG 3), 31 Hodges (Fr-Gd), 36a Zernial/Chicago (Vg-Ex), 38 Snider (VG/EX+ 4.5), 39 Kluszewski (Vg), 50 Irvin (VG+ 3.5), and 52a Holmes/Boston (Vg-Ex+). This set represents Topps' first major effort in the baseball-card business. The 1951 "Red Backs" Topps set is among the most significant, yet overlooked, of all early Topps cards, and in our opinion represents an excellent value. Total: 52 cards.
