Graded NM/MT 8 by SGC. One of only two examples graded at this level by SGC with none higher! Extremely high grade E94 candy card featuring New York Giants Hall of Famer John McGraw in a catching pose set against a bold green background (one of the seven different background color variations of the set). This is a gem of a card, perfectly clean front and back, with four strong corners, flawless registration, and outstanding centering. The back is clean and has the checklist for the set. While at a glance E94s may be easily confused with other caramel-card sets of the era (E93 and E98 specifically), they are an entirely different set, though they share many of the same subjects and poses. The E94 caramel-card set is usually associated with the George Close Co. of Cambridge, Massachusetts. While the majority of the E94 cards do not have any sort of advertisement on the back, some have been found with overprints that make reference to this company. Caramel cards are rarely found in high grade. This is an extremely high-grade Near Mint example of the legendary Hall of Fame manager John McGraw from this rare, early twentieth-century candy issue, worthy of the finest “E” card, Hall of Famer, or prewar card collection.
