Presented is near-complete set of 1937 R172 Gum, Inc. "Wild West" consisting of forty-seven different cards (out of 48 in the set), plus an original wax wrapper. This set is missing only #49 for completion and includes both back variations of #44. A total of forty-eight cards is considered by many hobbyists to be complete as almost all sets are missing the extremely rare #25 Cowboy Outfit premium card. Each card in this set features a colorful, western-themed scene with a description on the reverse. These cards were issued with puzzle backs (Type 1) or without puzzle backs (Type 2). This set entirely consists of puzzle backs except for the following twelve type 2 cards: #26, 27, 28, 29, 32, 37, 38, 39, 41, 43, 47, and 48. Condition is 10% Ex, 73% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 17% Gd (including one lesser). Condition of the wrapper is Fr-Gd. This is a rarely offered set of this popular and desirable 1930s gum-card issue.
