Lot # 2880: 1935 R48-1 and R48-2 Gum, Inc. "Film Funnies" Complete and Partial Set Pair (2 Sets, 40 Cards) Plus Wrapper

Presented is a complete and partial set pair of 1935 R48-1 and R48-2 Gum, Inc. "Film Funnies" trading cards. These colorful artwork cards are designed with caricatures of popular movie stars of the 1930s, including W.C. Fields, James Cagney, Mae West, Jimmy Durante, Chico Marx, Laurel & Hardy, Joe E. Brown, Greta Garbo, Clark Gable, and Bing Crosby. Also included is an original wax wrapper (technically Pr-Fr due to staple holes, otherwise offering a Vg appearance). Seven cards have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA (6) and SGC (1). This lot consists of the following: 1) R48-1 Complete Set (24): Condition is 33% Vg-Ex to Ex, 25% Gd to Vg, and 42% lesser (mostly due to partially erased writing on the fronts and including card #1). Keys: #7 (SGC EX 60), 10 (EX 5), 12 (EX 5), 18 (VG-EX 4), and 19 (EX 5). 2) R48-2 Near-Complete Set (16/24): Condition is two Nr/Mt, five Vg-Ex, two Gd, and seven with a slight trim (averaging Vg in appearance). Missing the following eight cards for completion: #1, 3, 7, 12, 19, 20, 22, and 24. Keys: #8 (NM 7) and 11 (NM 7). This is an extremely attractive near-complete collection of one of nonsport card collecting's most popular issues. Total: 40 cards plus wrapper.
