Description

Near-complete set of the classic 1935 "Mickey Mouse" Bubble Gum cards issued by Gum., Inc., consisting of 90 (of 96) cards, plus two different original wax wrappers. Missing only #75, 77, 78, 81, 82, and 87 for completion. Mickey Mouse Bubble Gum cards are considered by many to be the single most classic 1930s nonsport bubble-gum card set. The brilliant colors, high-quality artwork, and popular subject matter have always made this set a favorite with collectors. It is also worth noting that cards from this set are much scarcer than most collectors realize and far more difficult to find than most baseball cards of the era (such as Goudeys, National Chicles, Play Balls, etc.). Condition is 26% Vg-Ex to Ex (mostly Vg-Ex), 51% Gd to Vg, and 23% Pr to Fr (including a few that measure small). Seven cards have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA (2) and SGC (5). Keys: #1 "Let's Make Hoop-ee" (stamp hinge remnants on reverse, otherwise Vg+), 21 "He's Sure a Handy..." w/ Walt Disney (Fr), and 92 "People Like Uncle Walt..." w/ Walt Disney (Fr). Seven Graded Cards (SGC unless noted): #10 (EX 60), 27 (PSA EX 5), 32 (PSA EX+ 5.5), 47 (EX 60), 51 (VG/EX+ 55), 61 (VG 40), and 63 (VG/EX 50). The original wax wrappers that accompany this set display several bold illustrations of Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters, grading Very Good (the "three-character" wrapper variation) and Fair to Good (the "five-character" variation). This is a very attractive medium- to lower-grade near-complete set of one of the most popular of all 1930s gum-card sets, with tremendous crossover appeal to both card collectors and Mickey Mouse collectors. Total: 90 cards and two wrappers.
