Presented is a near-complete set of 1935 R27 "Cartoon Comics" consisting of 40 different cards (out of 48 in the set). Missing the eight Dick Tracy cards for completion (#101-108). This set features six popular 1930s characters, each with a subset consisting of one portrait and seven action story cards. Each card (except the "Joe Palooka" series cards) carries a "Chicago Tribune" credit line and 1935 copyright date. The cards are numbered 101 through 148. The cards grade as follows by character: Little Orphan Annie (two Vg-Ex, three Vg, Gd, Pr, and trimmed inside the perforation, otherwise Fr); Harold Teen (Ex, five Vg-Ex, Vg, and Pr-Fr); Moon Mullins (Ex, three Vg-Ex, and four Vg); Joe Palooka (Ex, Vg-Ex, four Vg, and two Gd); Terry and the Pirates (two Ex, Vg-Ex, Vg, Gd and three Pr to Pr-Fr due to back damage). This is an attractive and mostly mid-grade 1930s nonsport near-complete set with excellent eye-appeal. Total: 40 cards.
