Lot # 978: 1934 R320 Goudey #61 Lou Gehrig SGC VG+ 45

Graded VG+ 45 by SGC. Attractive mid-grade example of this classic Lou Gehrig card, one of the most popular of all of his cards and all 1930s bubble-gum cards. The 1934 Goudey "Lou Gehrig says..." series features an additional Gehrig portrait on the front and words by him on the reverse (in the case of this card, an invitation to join Goudey's Knot Hole League of America club and to personally write him with questions about the game, which no doubt kept Christy Walsh or someone at Goudey very busy). This example boasts vibrant colors, a crisp image, and light corner wear. The reverse displays boldly printed green text and light toning. This is an outstanding card: It's easy to see why it is not only one of the great Goudey cards that represents Gehrig in his prime but also one of the best of all 1930s bubble-gum cards. A strong example of one of Gehrig's most desirable cards.
