The 1951 Red and Blue Back sets are extremely significant as these were the first major baseball-card sets ever issued by Topps. Offered as a single lot are complete sets of both the 1951 Topps Red Backs and 1951 Topps Blue Backs, each with 52 cards, plus 13 duplicates, for a total of 117 cards. In total, 92% of the cards in these sets are in Poor condition, mostly due to tape on the corners and staple holes. This collection consists of the following: 1) 1951 Topps Red Back (52) Plus Eight Duplicates (#7, 15 Kiner, 17, 22 Feller, 35, 36a Zernial/Chicago in bio, 48, and 49): Condition is Pr overall, with four better (Vg-Ex and three Fr). Keys (Poor condition unless noted): #1 Berra, 5 Rizzuto, 6 Reynolds, 8 Wynn, two 15 Kiner (Gd), 20 D. DiMaggio, two 22 Feller (Fr), 30 Spahn, 31 Hodges, two 36a Zernial/Chicago in bio (Vg-Ex), 38 Snider, 39 Kluszewski, 50 Irvin, and 52a Holmes/Boston. 2) 1951 Topps Blue Back (52) Plus Five Duplicates (#9 Sain, 22, 26, 27, and 40): Condition is Pr overall, with six better (three Vg-Ex, Vg, Gd, and Fr). Keys (Poor condition unless noted): #1 Yost, 3 Ashburn, 6 Schoendienst, two 9 Sain, 10 Page, 20 Branca, 30 Slaughter, 37 Doerr, 39 Lopat, 45 Pierce, 50 Mize, and 52 Chapman.
