Description

Complete 1951 Topps "Red Backs" set of fifty-two cards. The landmark "Red Backs" set is extremely significant as this was one of the first major baseball-card sets ever issued by Topps. Condition is 10% Ex or better, 63% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 27% lesser (including eleven with a trim to the top or bottom edge). Keys: #1 Berra (slight trim, otherwise Fr), 5 Rizzuto (Pr-Fr due to pinhole and small pen mark on reverse), 6 Reynolds (Vg+), 8 Wynn (Gd+), 15 Kiner (Fr), 20 D. DiMaggio (slight trim, otherwise Vg), 22 Feller (Fr due to small spots of paper loss on reverse), 30 Spahn (Vg+), 31 Hodges (trimmed, otherwise Gd), 36a Zernial/Chicago (Ex), 38 Snider (Fr-Gd), 39 Kluszewski (Pr), 50 Irvin RC (trimmed, otherwise Vg), and 52a Holmes/Boston (slight trim, otherwise Fr-Gd). This set represents Topps' first major effort in the baseball-card business. The 1951 "Red Backs" Topps set is among the most significant, yet overlooked, of all early Topps cards, and in our opinion represents an extraordinary value. Total: 52 cards.
