Description

Graded EX 5 by PSA. Outstanding example of Southern Leaguer Shag Shaughnessy (Roanoke) with a desirable Old Mill advertising back. Shaughnessy has always been an extremely popular T206 and among the scarcest of the Southern Leaguers. Frank "Shag" Shaughnessy made it to the majors for just a few games in 1905 with Washington and 1908 with the Athletics, then went on to have a great significance to the game off the field. In 1933, as general manager of the International League's Montreal Royals, Shaughnessy introduced for the first time the concept of a playoff system to create more interest in postseason play. Known as "The Shaughnessy Plan," this format had a tremendous impact on the minor and major leagues. Shaughnessy went on to serve as president of the International League for 25 years (1936-1960). The card has vibrant colors, outstanding registration, and light corner wear. The Old Mill reverse is boldly printed.
