Lot # 388: 1909-1911 T206 White Border Bud Sharpe PSA VG 3 - Extremely Rare "Shappe" Variation

Graded VG 3 by PSA (submitted by REA). Very attractive example of the 1909-1911 T206 White Border "Shappe" printing variation of Bud Sharpe. This is one of the rarest of all T206 caption variations. As collectors have become more sophisticated, there has been a growing appreciation for all great rarities and unusual cards associated with the T206 set. The "Shappe" variation card is a legitimate variation error card that has been checklisted in the Standard Catalog. The “Shappe” variation error card is defined by the misspelling of Sharpe's name on the card’s caption. This caption variation was apparently caused by a printing plate error affecting the typeset of Sharpe's name on only a very limited print run. The offered card has a brilliant red background, a crisp image, and honest corner wear. Clean Piedmont 350/25 advertising reverse. This card would serve as a significant addition to any complete T206 collection.
