Presented is a very attractive near-complete set of 1935 R309-2 Goudey Premiums consisting of 12 different cards, out of 15 in the set. Includes one duplicate Ott. R309-2s are among the rarest and most overlooked of all 1930s premium cards. Issued in 1935 by Goudey Gum and catalogued R309-2 in the ACC, this large-format set (5.5 x 9.5 inches) was available only from retailers in exchange for Goudey Gum wrappers. They have the look of "giant R314" Goudey premiums. They are rare in any condition, and due to their size are almost never found in high grade. These premium cards are printed on thin, glossy stock and are susceptible to all kinds of faults, especially creases. This near set consists of the following: Auker (Gd-Vg), Babich (Pr), Bartell (Vg), Berger (Pr), Cochrane (Fr, HOF), Fox/Goslin (HOF)/Walker (Fr), Gomez (Gd, HOF), Greenberg (Fr, HOF), Melillo (Vg), two Ott (Gd and Pr, HOF), Rowe (Gd-Vg), and Tamulis (Vg). Missing the following three team premiums for completion: Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, and Washington Senators. Lester Bell remains on many of the checklists for this set, but no example has ever been confirmed, and serious collectors of this set consider it complete at 15. Complete or near-complete sets of this issue are very rarely assembled or offered for sale. This is an outstanding near-complete set of this desirable 1930s premium issue. Total: 13 premiums.
