Description

Offered is a very attractive and mostly mid-grade near-complete set of the 1941 Play Ball series issued by Gum, Inc., one of card collecting's all-time classic gum issues. This full-color near-complete set is composed of 66 of the 72 total cards and includes many Hall of Famers and stars, highlighted by Mel Ott, Carl Hubbell, and Hank Greenberg. Missing the following six cards for completion: #13 Foxx, 14 Williams, 54 Reese, 70 Dickey, 71 J. DiMaggio, and 72 Gomez. Condition is 28% Ex or slightly better, 58% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 14% lesser. We have selected four cards for grading and encapsulation by SGC. Keys: #1 Miller (Gd), 6 Hubbell (Gd), 8 Ott (Gd), 10 Vaughan (EX 5), 15 Cronin (Vg), 18 Greenberg (EX/NM 6), 19 Gehringer (VG/EX+ 4.5), 20 Ruffing (Vg), 39 Henrich (Vg-Ex), 60 Klein (Vg), 61 V. DiMaggio (Vg-Ex), 63 D. DiMaggio (Vg-Ex+), and 64 Doerr (EX 5). One of the great things about card collecting is that the classic card sets can be collected in any condition, on any budget. Spanning several grades, this is a very attractive near-complete set that we think any collector would find extremely appealing, and one that could serve as an excellent start toward the assembly of a complete set, or serve as an impressive representation of the issue. Total: 66 cards.
