Description

Presented is an extremely substantial collection of over 70,000 assorted cards from three different Topps sets dating from 1977, 1978, and 1979. Over 2,800 Hall of Famers are present within this collection, as well as numerous other stars of the era, many of which appear with heavy duplication. The heaviest representation by year is 1978 Topps, followed closely by 1979 and 1977. This collection was not consigned to us in numerical order, but based on the key cards that have been quantified, we believe that up to 20 complete (and many more near-complete) sets could be built from this incredible hoard. The collection consists of the following: 1) 1977 Topps: Condition is 29% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including some Mint), 47% Ex to Ex-Mt (including some due solely to centering), and 24% Vg to Vg-Ex (including 1% lesser). Keys: Thirteen #10 Jackson (two Nr/Mt, two Ex-Mt, four Ex, four Vg-Ex, and Vg+), fourteen 70 Bench (Nr/Mt-Mt, Nr/Mt, five Ex-Mt, three Ex, and three Vg-Ex), nineteen 140 Schmidt (three Nr/Mt, five Ex-Mt, five Ex, two Vg-Ex, and four Vg), four 144 Sutter RC (Nr/Mt+ and three Vg-Ex), fifteen 150 Seaver (two Nr/Mt, Ex-Mt, seven Ex, Vg-Ex, and four Vg), nine 265 Fidrych RC (Nr/Mt, two Ex-Mt, Ex, four Vg-Ex, and Vg), thirteen 450 Rose (Nr/Mt, three Ex-Mt, four Ex, three Vg-Ex, Vg, and measures small, otherwise Ex), five 473 Dawson RC (Nr/Mt, Ex, Vg-Ex, and two Vg), five 476 Murphy RC (two Nr/Mt, two Ex-Mt, and Vg), fifteen 580 Brett (three Nr/Mt, four Ex-Mt, four Ex, two Vg-Ex, and two Vg), and thirteen 650 Ryan (three Nr/Mt due to 30/70 centering, three Ex-Mt, five Ex, and two Vg). 2) 1978 Topps: Condition is 40% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including some Mint), 47% Ex to Ex-Mt (including some due solely to centering), and 13% Vg to Vg-Ex (including 1% lesser). Keys: Eighteen #20 Rose (two Nr/Mt-Mt, five Nr/Mt, six Ex-Mt, three Ex, Vg-Ex, and Vg), six 36 Murray RC (Nr/Mt, two Ex, Vg-Ex+, Vg+, and Gd), twenty-seven 100 Brett (Nr/Mt-Mt, six Nr/Mt, six Ex-Mt, nine Ex, three Vg-Ex, Vg, and pen mark on reverse, otherwise Ex), twenty-eight 200 Jackson (Nr/Mt-Mt, seven Nr/Mt, four Ex-Mt, nine Ex, and seven Vg-Ex), seventeen 360 Schmidt (two Nr/Mt-Mt, two Nr/Mt, six Ex-Mt, two Ex, two Vg-Ex, and three Vg), twenty-five 400 Ryan (two Nr/Mt-Mt, two Nr/Mt, four Ex-Mt, twelve Ex, two Vg-Ex, and three Vg), eighteen 450 Seaver, seventeen 700 Bench, ten 703 Morris RC (two Nr/Mt-Mt, three Nr/Mt, two Ex, Vg-Ex, and two Vg), nine 704 Whitaker RC, eleven 707 Trammell/Molitor RC (four Nr/Mt, six Ex, and Vg-Ex), and ten 708 Murphy/Parrish RC. 3) 1979 Topps: Condition is 29% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including some Mint), 55% Ex to Ex-Mt (mostly due to centering), and 16% Vg to Vg-Ex (including 1% lesser). Keys: Thirty-five #24 Molitor (four Nr/Mt, eleven Ex-Mt, fifteen Ex, three Vg-Ex, and two Vg), twenty-one 100 Seaver, sixteen 115 Ryan (Nr/Mt-Mt, four Nr/Mt, four Ex-Mt, four Ex, two Vg-Ex, and Vg), ten 116 Smith RC (Nr/Mt, three Ex, two Vg-Ex, and four Vg due to 100/0 T/B centering), twenty-two 200 Bench, twenty-eight 330 Brett (four Nr/Mt-Mt, five Nr/Mt, eight Ex-Mt, seven Ex, three Vg-Ex, and Vg), nine 369a Wills/Blue Jays, twelve 369b Wills/Rangers, twenty-seven 610 Schmidt (four Nr/Mt-Mt, seven Nr/Mt, nine Ex-Mt, six Ex, and Vg-Ex), thirty-two 640 Murray (four Nr/Mt, nine Ex-Mt, fourteen Ex, three Vg-Ex, and two Vg), twenty-six 650 Rose (three Nr/Mt-Mt, Nr/Mt, five Ex-Mt, twelve Ex, four Vg-Ex, and two Vg), and twenty-nine 700 Jackson. Only a small fraction of the 2,800+ Hall of Famers in this collection are listed above. Also included are approximately 20 (some more, some fewer) cards per set of every other Hall of Famer from the era, including Brock, Carew, Carlton, Carter, McCovey, Palmer, Rice, Stargell, Winfield, Yastrzemski, Yount, and many others. Due to the age of new vintage-card collectors, and the relative affordability of 1970s cards compared with earlier issued sets, it is not surprising that interest in cards from the 1970s has increased in recent years (and will probably continue to increase). This is a very substantial investment or dealer lot with a tremendous potential break value. Total: approximately 70,000+ cards. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Interested bidders should request a shipping estimate prior to bidding as this lot will likely be most economically delivered by freight carrier (must be able to receive a pallet). Otherwise, it will be shipped via FedEx Ground in approximately a dozen boxes of substantial weight.
