Presented is a sizeable collection of 43 different cards (out of 72) from the 1948 Bowman Basketball set, highlighted by the rookie cards of four Hall of Famers, each professionally graded and encapsulated by BVG (Beckett). The 1948 Bowman Basketball series is particularly significant as this was the first set ever issued devoted exclusively to basketball. This 1948 issue was the only basketball set Bowman ever produced. BVG Grading Composite: EX+ 5.5 (4 cards): #23, 27, 30, and 32 Holzman RC (HOF). EX 5 (6 cards): #8, 12, 13, 16, 28, and 55 Zaslofsky RC. VG-EX+ 4.5 (11 cards): #6, 7, 10 Davies RC (HOF), 11, 17, 21, 25, 26, 29, 31, and 33. VG-EX 4 (9 cards): #3, 4, 9 Phillip RC (HOF), 15, 18, 20, 22, 34 Fulks RC (HOF), and 35. VG+ 3.5 (7 cards): #1 Calverley RC, 2, 19, 24, 36, 64, and 67. VG 3 (5 cards): #5, 14, 36, 50, and 68. GOOD+ 2.5 (1 card): #53. Cards from this set are extremely hard to find in high grade in part because these cards (like 1949 Bowman baseball) often naturally have soft corners due to the quality of the paper stock on which they were printed. This is a very attractive and desirable mid-grade grouping of cards from this landmark basketball issue. Total:43 cards.
