Description

Graded GOOD 2 by PSA. Magnificent example of Ty Cobb, the key card of this very rare and classic 1910 era candy set. The E103 Williams Caramel set is easily distinguished from other caramel sets of the era by the bright red background highlighting each player's portrait. As noted on each card along the lower margin, The Williams Candy Company was in Oxford, Pennsylvania, and this card was very likely issued on a somewhat regional basis. This fact almost certainly accounts for their great rarity. When they are found, they usually have serious condition problems, which is not surprising considering that these cards were issued to children one card per package with candy. This E103 Williams Caramel Ty Cobb is an outstanding example! Crisp and clean, with a flawless image, a deep red background, and four strong corners. A tiny surface chip is present on the lower-left edge and does not detract at all from the card's exceptional display value. Entirely crease free, with a clean blank reverse (a thin line of surface scuffing is present along the right edge). This would be a tremendous high-quality example for any E103, let alone Ty Cobb. This is an outstanding example of one of Cobb's most desirable and striking cards.
