Description

Rarely offered example of New York Knicks Hall of Famer Willis Reed from the circa 1969 N.B.A.P. Member basketball-card series. This unusual series is one of the most mysterious basketball issues of the 1960s and, to this day, no one knows exactly what company issued them, or even exactly how they were issued, although it was always clear they were cut from something (possibly a Converse basketball shoe box). The cards feature black-and-white photos surrounded by light blue borders, with the player's name and "N.B.A.P. Member" printed below the image. The reverses are blank. This is only the third time we have offered an example from this series in the past 21 years. (Amazingly, we have a total of seven examples in this current auction.) The offered example displays light creasing, scattered surface wear, and an entirely clean reverse. Encapsulated as "Authentic" (submitted by REA) by PSA due to being hand cut. One of only two examples graded by PSA. This is a very attractive example of one of Willis Reed's most elusive cards from one of the 1960s' most fascinating and unusual sets.
