Description

Presented is a near-complete set of 1969-1970 Topps Basketball Rulers consisting of 22 different rulers out of 23 in the set (#5 was never issued). Missing only #12 Thurmond for completion. This fascinating and unusual set consists of colorful "cards" measuring 2.5 x 10 inches and designed as a ruler used to measure some of the day's best basketball players, including Lew Alcindor and Wilt Chamberlain. The front features an illustration of the player alongside the ruler, with his height marked appropriately and his name and team near the bottom. The backs are blank. Each ruler is folded into fourths, as designed and issued, with the folds visible against the very thin stock. The rulers present as Ex to Ex-Mt overall, with some technically grading Vg-Ex or slightly lesser due to light surface wrinkles, miscut side edges, or centering issues. Keys: #2 West (Vg-Ex), 9 Havlicek (Ex-Mt), 10 Alcindor (Vg-Ex), 11 Chamberlain (Ex-Mt), and 24 Robertson (Ex-Mt). This is a very attractive near-complete set (minus one) of this unusual and rarely offered Topps basketball insert set. Total: 22 rulers.
