Lot # 2822: 1933 R174 Goudey "World War Gum" Partial Set (55/96) Including 48 SGC- and PSA-Graded Cards

Collection of 55 different cards (out of 96 in a complete set) from the 1933 R174 Goudey "World War Gum" set. Goudey's "World War Gum" series is one of the most popular nonsport sets ever issued. The orange and red cards feature black-and-white photos of various war scenes, with a card title printed on front and a description of the scene on the reverse. Forty-eight cards have been professionally graded and encapsulated by SGC (47) and PSA (1). SGC Grading Composite: EX/NM 80 (8 cards): #50, 52, 61, 62, 77 (PSA), 89, 91, and 93. EX+ 70 (6 cards): #54, 55, 59, 64, 86, and 92. EX 60 (17 cards): #49, 53, 56, 57, 58, 60, 65, 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, 73, 74, 76, 78, and 82. VG/EX+ 55 (4 cards): #63, 72, 85, and 87. VG/EX 50 (7 cards): #66, 84, 88, 90, 94, 95, and 96. VG+ 45 (1 card): #81. VG 40 (5 cards): #51, 75, 79, 80, and 83. The condition of the seven unencapsulated cards is four Gd, Fr, and two Pr. Missing the following 41 cards for completion: #1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 40, 41, 42, 43, 45, 46, 47, and 48. Compared to baseball cards of the era, these early nonsports cards, which are at least as scarce, represent a particularly outstanding value. In our experience, we have found the 1933 R174 Goudey "World War Gum" series to be a particularly difficult-to-find set. This is a very substantial collection of this classic 1930s nonsport issue, representing an excellent start to the completion of this challenging issue. Total: 55 cards.
