Description

Rare example of Hall of Famer Martin Dihigo from the 1945-1946 Caramelo Deportivo set. This is one of the most fascinating sets of the 1940s. This set was issued with Caramelo Deportivo ("Sporting Caramels") in Cuba and includes players from the Cuban Winter League. It is one of the few sets of the era to include many Negro League stars. Dihigo played every position and is considered by many to be the best all-around player to ever take the field. Dihigo is one of baseball's greatest legends. He has the distinction of being a member of three baseball Halls of Fame (U.S., Cuba, and Mexico). These cards were meant to be glued into an album and, because of this, cards from this set are rarely found in better than Vg condition. Printed on thin stock, these cards are also susceptible to wrinkling and heavy creasing, as seen here on the offered example. Graded POOR 1 by SGC largely due to heavy creasing and evidence of album removal on the reverse. Despite the card's imperfections, this is a very presentable example of this rare card featuring this popular Hall of Famer.
