Description

The 1950 All-Star Game, held at Chicago's Comiskey Park on July 11th, marked the first extra-inning game in the history of the midsummer classic, with Red Schoendienst's solo home run in the top of the fourteenth inning giving the National League a hard-fought 4-3 victory. As exciting as the game was, it probably paled in comparison to the thrill experienced by the original owner of the offered program, who somehow managed to obtain the signatures of 50 participants in the game. We cannot ever recall seeing a program, be it All-Star, World Series, or regular season, signed by so many players. The fact that it features the signatures of 18 future Hall of Famers only adds to its appeal. The signatures represented here, all of which appear on the interior, next to or on top of the player's respective image are Joe DiMaggio, Casey Stengel (Mgr.), Gil Hodges, Bill Dickey (coach), Stan Musial, Pee Wee Reese, Enos Slaughter, Duke Snider, Red Schoendienst, Robin Roberts, Warren Spahn, George Kell, Bobby Doerr, Phil Rizzuto, Yogi Berra, Bob Lemon, Larry Doby, Bob Feller, Dom DiMaggio, Marty Marion, Ferris Fain, Jim Hegan, Jerry Coleman, Allie Reynolds, Tommy Byrne, Cass Michaels, Art Houtteman, Ted Gray, Tommy Henrich, Ray Scarborough, Vic Raschi, Vern Stephens, Sherm Lollar, Hoot Evers, Walt Dropo, John Wyrostek, Hank Sauer, Larry Jansen, Preacher Roe, Jim Konstanty, Dick Sisler, Ewell Blackwell, Andy Pafko, Eddie Stanky, Bob Rush, Willie Jones, Jim Turner (coach), and Frankie Crosetti (coach). Please note the signatures of Ted Williams, Don Newcombe, Burt Shotton, Jake Pitler, and Milt Stock have been deemed clubhouse examples by JSA. The signatures, which have been penned in a variety of inks, are all boldly scripted. The forty-page program displays moderate wear throughout, including minor creases on both covers. In Good condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA.
