Lot # 415: 1911 T3 Turkey Red #9 Ty Cobb PSA GOOD+ 2.5 - Rare Checklist (No Offer) Reverse

Graded GOOD+ 2.5 by PSA. Presented is one of vintage-card collecting's most recognizable icons and the key card of the 1911 Turkey Red Tobacco cabinet-card series: #9 Ty Cobb. Besides being the most valuable card in the set, it is also one of the most desirable and striking of all Ty Cobb cards. This example is bright with bold colors and centering slightly to the left. Corner wear (most noticeably on the top left) and spots of surface wear are the notable flaws. The reverse of this card features a checklist of cards #1-76 but is missing the text below the checklist, which outlines the redemption offer in which coupons from Turkey Red, Old Mill, or Fez Cigarettes products could be exchanged by mail for one of the cards. These checklist (no offer) cards are particularly scarce. Despite the noted imperfections, this is an attractive example of card #9 Ty Cobb, in an extremely desirable grade. The classic Turkey Red set is considered by many to be the most beautiful and well-made tobacco set ever issued. The T3 Ty Cobb has always and will always be in high demand, especially a rarely seen “no offer” checklist-back variation such as this one.
