Description

Wilson "Ted Williams - Speed Ball” baseball signed in blue ink by 29 members of the 1958 National League Champion Milwaukee Braves, including Aaron, Spahn, Schoendienst, Mathews, Herman (coach), Pafko, F. Torre, Rush, Willey, Mantilla, Burdette, Hanebrink, Conley, Crandall, McMahon (deceased 1987 at young age of 57), Bruton, Johnson, Covington, Logan, Jay, Adcock, Rice, Fitzpatrick (coach, sweet spot), Roach, Robinson, Wyatt (coach), and Trowbridge. (The signature of manager Fred Haney on the sweet spot has been deemed a clubhouse example.) The Milwaukee Braves repeated as National League champions in 1958, finishing 92–62 under manager Fred Haney. Powered by Hank Aaron’s MVP-caliber season and Eddie Mathews’ slugging, Milwaukee led the NL in home runs and featured dominant pitching from Warren Spahn and Lew Burdette. The Braves defeated the Dodgers to clinch the pennant but fell to the Yankees in a hard-fought seven-game World Series, narrowly missing back-to-back championships. The ball has a couple spots of discoloration but is otherwise in Excellent to Near Mint condition overall. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA.
