Official American League baseball (Cronin) signed predominantly in black ink by 28 members of the 1966 Boston Red Sox, including Yastrzemski (sweet spot), Herman (Mgr, sweet spot), Conigliaro (deceased in 1990 at the young age of 45), Osinski, Tillman, Bennett, Gardner (coach), G. Smith, McMahon (deceased in 1987 at the young age of 57), Maglie (coach), Petrocelli, Lonborg, Runnels (coach), Foy (deceased in 1989 at the young age of 46), Sheldon (his only season with the Red Sox), Jones, Tartabull, Wyatt, Kasko, Ryan, Morehead, Okrie (coach), Stigman, Santiago, Thomas, Stange, and Scott (rookie season). The 1966 Red Sox went 72–90 and finished ninth in the American League. It was a transition year that set the stage for the 1967 “Impossible Dream” season. Carl Yastrzemski and Tony Conigliaro provided the main power, while rookie George Scott impressed with solid defense and 27 home runs. Pitching was inconsistent despite flashes from Jim Lonborg and Jose Santiago. Manager Billy Herman was dismissed late in the year, and interim manager Pete Runnels closed out a rebuilding season. The ball displays a couple light spots of discoloration but is otherwise in Near Mint condition overall. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA.
