Description

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. One of only five examples graded at this level by SGC, with just two graded higher. Extremely attractive example of Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Famer Honus Wagner from this extremely popular candy-card issue. The card is bright and clean, with incredibly vibrant colors, light corner wear, and outstanding registration. A small surface flaw is visible below Wagner's right elbow. The reverse is clean with a boldly printed advertisement. The E90-1 American Caramel set has two different poses of Honus Wagner (batting and throwing). This same batting pose was also used for E92 Dockman & Sons and other related candy-card issues from the 1910 era. Caramel cards in general are rarely found in high grade. This is a strong mid-grade example of Honus Wagner from one of prewar-card collecting's most desirable candy-card issues.
