Very attractive partial set of the 1941 Play Ball series issued by Gum, Inc., consisting of 48 different cards (out of 72 in the set). The 1941 Play Ball set is one of card collecting's all-time classic gum issues. Condition is 23% Vg-Ex to Ex (mostly Vg-Ex), 52% Gd to Vg, and 25% lesser (including a few that measure a bit small). Keys: #1 Miller (Vg), 8 Ott (Fr), 13 Foxx (Vg+), 15 Cronin (10/90 L/R and B/T, otherwise Vg), 18 Greenberg (measures small, otherwise Vg+), 19 Gehringer (Fr due to soiling at bottom-right corner), 20 Ruffing (Vg-Ex), 39 Henrich (Pr), 54 Reese RC (Vg), 60 Klein (Ex), 61 V. DiMaggio (Gd+), 64 Doerr (Gd), and 72 Gomez (Vg). Missing the following twenty-four cards for completion: #6 Hubbell, 10 Vaughan, 12, 14 Williams, 24, 26, 27, 34, 35, 37, 38, 40, 41, 43, 48, 49, 52, 55, 62, 63 D. DiMaggio, 65, 66, 70 Dickey, and 71 J. DiMaggio. An attractive set such as this, which spans several grades, often represents a particularly outstanding collecting value. This is a very attractive set that we think any collector would find extremely appealing, while at the same time being a far more affordable alternative to a higher-grade set of this very popular prewar gum issue. Total: 48 cards.
