Description

Presented is a very rarely offered near-complete set of R305 Tattoo Orbit cards consisting of 58 different cards (out of 60 in a set). Missing just Billy Herman and Lombardi for completion. Includes the following three duplicates: Cuyler, Babe Herman, and Jurges. This near set, issued by the Orbit Gum Co. of Chicago (a subsidiary of Wrigley’s) in 1933, is highlighted by 16 Hall of Famers, including Jimmie Foxx, Lefty Grove, Rogers Hornsby, and Connie Mack. Their striking colors, unusual size (2 x 2.25 inches), and rarity compared to other 1930s sets make "Tattoo Orbits" one of the most fascinating, distinctive, and difficult-to-complete of all sets from the 1930s. Condition is 13% Ex and 87% Vg to Vg-Ex (including a few lesser and a couple that measure small). We have selected six cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. Keys: Averill (Vg+), Cochrane (VG/EX+ 4.5), two Cuyler (both Vg-Ex), Dean (VG/EX+ 4.5), Foxx (EX 5), Grimes (Vg), Grove (EX 5), Hafey (Vg-Ex), Haines (Vg), Hartnett (Vg-Ex), Hornsby (EX 5), Lyons (Vg+), Mack (VG/EX+ 4.5), Simmons (Vg), and P. Waner (Vg-Ex). This is a very attractive and rarely offered near-complete set of this unusual 1930s gum issue. Total: 61 cards (near set of 58 plus three duplicates).
