Description

Presented is an exceptional near-complete master set of 1955 Bowman Baseball consisting of 322 different cards out of 326 in a complete master set. This near-complete assemblage of the classic and extremely popular set is highlighted by Hall of Famers Roy Campanella, Al Kaline, Ernie Banks, and Yogi Berra, plus five of the six variation cards (#48, 132, 157, 195, and 204). Missing the following four cards for completion: #101a D. Johnson/E. Johnson on front, 179 Aaron, 184 Mays, and 202 Mantle. Condition is 18% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (mostly Nr/Mt), 60% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 22% Vg to Vg-Ex (including a couple that measure a bit small). Thirty-six cards have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA (29) and SGC (7). Keys: #1 Wilhelm (Ex-Mt), 10 Rizzuto (Ex), 22 Campanella (Vg), 23 Kaline (PSA EX 5), 33 Fox (Nr/Mt), 37 Reese (EX 5), 38 Wynn (Ex), 59 Ford (PSA NM 7), 68 Howard RC (Ex), 103 Mathews (Ex due to centering), 130 Ashburn (EX 5), 134 Feller (Ex-Mt), 158 Hodges (Nr/Mt), 168 Berra (SGC Authentic), 171 Roberts (Ex+), 191 Lemon (Ex-Mt), 195b Palica/traded line (Vg-Ex), 197 Kiner (Ex-Mt), 242 Banks (VG/EX 4), 265 Barlick (Vg-Ex), 283 Chylak (Ex), 303 Conlan (Ex+), and 315 Hubbard RC (Vg-Ex). Thirty additional graded cards (PSA, unless noted): NM-MT 8 (14 cards): #12, 56, 175, 180, 194, 199, 210, 227, 228, 239, 260 (SGC), 262, 295 (SGC), and 318 (SGC). NM+ 7.5 (1 card): #305. NM 7 (15 cards): #13, 97, 98, 102, 116, 147, 149, 164, 201, 209, 212, 219, 246, 264, and 286. The 1955 Bowman cards (Bowman's final baseball-card issue) have always been very popular due to their classic "television" style and inclusion of so many stars. The flush-to-the-border wood-grain design of this issue makes them very susceptible to corner and edge wear and very difficult to assemble as a complete set in high grade. Overall a very attractive mid- to high-grade near-complete master set of this classic 1950s series. Total: 322 cards.
