Lot # 1735: Signed 1963 Topps #496 Steve Dalkowski/Fred Newman/Carl Bouldin/Jack Smith PSA GOOD 2

Rare signed example of #496 Rookie Stars from the 1963 Topps set, signed by all four players featured. The players- Steve Dalkowski, Fred Newman, Carl Bouldin, and Jack Smith- have each signed the card in blue ink. PSA/DNA has graded the card GOOD 2 and certified the signatures as "Authentic." Dalkowski, a longtime Baltimore Orioles farmhand, is regarded as having one of the fastest fastballs of all time. However, he lacked control and never made it to the Major Leagues. Dalkowski battled alcoholism during and after his baseball career, leading to periods of homelessness. Our consignor, the original owner of the card, found Dalkowki via a DMV request report in 1986 in California. Newman, who died in 1987 at the age of 45, did not sign by mail, resulting in the rarity of his signature today.
