Lot # 1654: 1960 Topps Collection (19) - All Unissued Text Variations

Extremely rare collection of nineteen unissued "text variation" cards from the 1960 Topps baseball set. While at first glance these cards may appear to be nothing more than an example of the final-issue cards, close examination reveals that they display a difference that will be of great interest to proof-card collectors. All nineteen cards have "Season Highlights" printed on back of the card (above the bio). The final issued cards of the players offered in this group had the text "Season Highlights" removed during production. All cards have been hand cut from a proof sheet, with a few measuring smaller than standard 1960 Topps cards. Although a few cards are cut neatly, most display uneven or jagged cuts on one or more edges. Without further reference to the hand cuts, the condition is Vg-Ex to Ex overall, with a couple slightly higher and lower. This collection consists of the following: #17, 21, 23, 27, 31, 33, 34 George Anderson (hand cut, otherwise Ex, HOF), 36, 42, 44, 47 Don Zimmer, 49, 56, 63, 71, 87, 93, 104, and 107. This is a fascinating group of cards from the popular 1960 Topps series that would be a significant addition to even the most advanced Topps collection. Total: 19 cards.
