Description

Scarce N175 "Small" Gypsy Queen of Jack Clements of the Philadelphia Phillies. This card is the same size and general format as N172 Old Judge, but with a slightly different design, and advertising for Goodwin's Gypsy Queen brand of tobacco. There has always been some confusion as to the catalog number of the smaller Gypsy Queens (similar in size to N172s and not to be confused with the even rarer large N175 Gypsy Queens, of which nine different cards are known) because the catalog does not distinguish between the two sizes of cards represented by "N175." This card has corner rounding and a light crease on the left edge. Encapsulated as Authentic by SGC (submitted by REA) due to an irregular hand cut along the right and bottom edges. The blank-backed reverse shows light soiling. A very pleasing sample from this rare and unusual Old Judge-related nineteenth-century issue.
