Near-complete set of 8- different (out of 87) 1910 T210 Old Mill "Series 2" cards featuring Virginia League players. The T210 set is actually comprised of eight different series, each a set unto itself representing a different minor league. The "Series 2" cards feature players from the Virginia League. A complete or near-complete series such as this is very rarely offered. Missing the following seven cards for completion: Andrada, Brandon, Clarke, Foxen, Griffin/Danville, Hannifan, and Pritchard. Fifty-one cards have been professionally graded and encapsulated by SGC (42) and PSA (9). SGC Grading Composite: EX 60 (6 cards): Brooks (PSA), Eddowes, Gehring, Jackson/Richmond, Mayberry (PSA), and Smith/Lynchburg, catching (SGC EX 5). VG/EX+ 55 (2 cards): McFarland and Neuton. VG/EX 50 (5 cards): Jackson/Portsmouth (PSA), Jenkins, Loos (PSA), Rowe, and Sharp. VG+ 45 (1 card): Zimmerman. VG 40 (20 cards): Archer, Baker, Beham (PSA), Bonner, Bowen, Breivogel (PSA), Chandler, Fisher, Hanks, Hoffman (SGC VG 3), Holland, Hooker (PSA VG 3 [MK]), Kirkpatrick, Messitt (SGC VG 3), Schrader, Shaw, Titman, Tydeman (PSA VG-EX 4), Walker/Norfolk, and Waymack.
GOOD+ 2.5 (1 card): Bussey (SGC). GOOD 30 (8 cards): Busch, Cefalu, Gatson, Kunkel, Larkins, Schmidt, Smith/Portsmouth, and Spicer. FAIR 20 (4 cards): Hale, Lovell, Woolums, and Vail. POOR 10 (4 cards): Doyle, Laughlin, Munson (PSA), and Revelle (SGC POOR 1). The condition of the 29-card unencapsulated balance is 13% Vg or slightly better, 32% Gd, and 55% Pr to Fr (including two with slight trims at corners). The T210 Old Mill Tobacco card set has always been extremely highly regarded by advanced collectors because it features so many players who appear in no other sets, it has a very distinctive design, it is scarce compared to most other tobacco-card sets of the era, and it features striking photos that are unique to the set. The T210 Old Mill set is also well known by collectors due to its inclusion of Joe Jackson (Series 8) and Casey Stengel (Series 6), which are regarded as two of the most famous and valuable of all baseball cards. It is virtually impossible to complete the entire set, and only a few complete sets (or even sets minus a few cards) have ever been assembled. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a near-complete set of one of the key series, featuring Virginia League players of the Southern League (some of these players will be familiar from their appearance in T206), painstakingly assembled by an extremely dedicated advanced collector. This is an attractive mixed-grade group of cards from this desirable and condition-sensitive issue. Total: 80 cards. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
