Lot # 968: Circa 1947 Jackie Robinson Bond Bread Advertising Poster

Extremely rare 1947 advertising poster featuring Jackie Robinson and his family endorsing Homogenized Bond Bread. Bond also issued a set of baseball cards (catalogued D302), each featuring a different pose of Robinson, in 1947. The poster was designed to be displayed in store windows, hopefully to encourage youngsters, and their parents, to buy the very same bread as the Jackie Robinson family. While we were not present to see the posters on display in the 1940s, it is our understanding that Bond provided these posters exclusively to stores in black neighborhoods. The posters were designed with adhesive in the four corners to allow them to be affixed to store windows. This is a magnificent example of one of the rarest and most historically significant of all baseball card-related advertising posters. The poster (11 x 15 inches) displays remnants of the original tape at all four corners, a small tear on the top edge, and a couple light creases. There are white corner mounts on the reverse from at one time being framed. This is an outstanding example of this highly prized advertising store sign, which is rarely, if ever, found in such a fine state of preservation, given its fragile nature and method of display.
