Lot # 600: 1912 J=K Candy Chick Lathers (Type 1) SGC GOOD 2 - The ONLY Graded Example!

Graded GOOD 2 by SGC. Presented is the ONLY example of Detroit Tigers third baseman Chick Lathers ever graded from the extremely rare 1912 J=K Candy issue. This is a Type I card with a sepia-toned photo of Lathers in a fielding action pose. Issued in 1912 by the J. Koenigsberg company of New York, each card was designed to be hand-cut from the side of a candy box containing one of the company's products. J=K Candy cards can be found in two distinct versions: the sepia Type I offered here and a colorized die-cut Type II variety. This card presents very well, far better than suggested by its technically accurate assigned grade (as can easily be seen). Crisp image with honest corner wear and minor toning. These cards naturally tend to grade very modestly due to their method of issue and hand-cut nature. Examples from this unusual 1910-era candy issue are extremely rare. This is an elusive rarity that would be an outstanding addition to any Detroit Tigers or type-card collection.
