Description

Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Mid-grade example of Hall of Famer Nap Lajoie from this very rare and classic 1910-era candy set. The E103 Williams Caramel set is easily distinguished from other caramel sets of the era by the bright red background highlighting each player's portrait. As noted on each card along the lower margin, the Williams Candy Company was located in Oxford, Penn., and this candy was very likely issued on a somewhat regional basis. This fact almost certainly accounts for their great rarity. When they are found, they usually have serious condition problems, which is not surprising considering that these cards were issued to children, one card per package of candy. The offered example boasts a beautiful red background, a crisp image, minimal corner wear, and a spot of paper loss to the left of Lajoie's face. Clean blank reverse. This is a strong example of one of Lajoie's most desirable and striking cards, a worthy and significant addition to an advanced Hall of Fame or prewar-card collection.
