Extraordinary complete 10-card set of 1921 W551 strip cards, highlighted by eight Hall of Famers including Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Walter Johnson, and presented on a single 10-card panel (as issued when originally sold). These colorful cards are referred to as "strip cards" because they were originally issued in uncut sheets or "strips" and were cut apart, as intended, with scissors. In the early days of the organized hobby, strip cards did not get the respect they deserved. It is only in recent years that collectors have begun to appreciate the distinctive look and tremendous value these cards represent. The set features (from left to right) Ruth (HOF), Cobb (HOF), Pipp, Speaker (HOF), Barnes, Stengel (HOF), Bancroft (HOF), Baker (HOF), Johnson (HOF), and Sisler (HOF). The panel is in outstanding condition with vibrant colors, impressive registration, and honest wear on the corners. It is crease- and wrinkle-free except for a tiny wrinkle on the reverse of the Sisler card and has a clean blank back. A light horizontal print line is more noticeable on the Cobb and Pipp cards. Presented in a 10-card panel as seen here (as opposed to cut into individual cards as usually seen), this complete W551 set is particularly rare, striking, and unusual. Dimensions: 13.75 x 2.25 inches.
