Description

Presented is a very substantial collection of 1960 Leaf cards, consisting of a complete set of 144 different cards, both variations of #25 Jim Grant, two out of three variations of #58 Hall Smith and 87 duplicates (including a partial set of 86 different). Leaf packaged these glossy black-and-white cards with marbles in an attempt to navigate contract terms with players, which dictated that only Topps could issue cards of modern ballplayers with bubble gum. Condition is 25% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (mostly Nr/Mt), 46% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 29% Vg to Vg-Ex (including 3% lesser and one altered). Keys: Two #1 Aparicio (Ex-Mt+ and Vg), two 25a Grant/white cap (Vg+ and Gd), 25b Grant/dark cap (altered corner, otherwise Vg-Ex), 27 B. Robinson (Vg), 37 Snider (Ex-Mt+), three 52 Green RC (Ex-Mt and two Vg-Ex), two 58c Smith/team missing (Ex+ and Vg-Ex), 69 Wilhelm (Ex+), 94 Baseball’s Two Hal Smiths (Fr), 125 Anderson (Pr-Fr due to pinhole), 128 Cepeda (Pr-Fr due to pinhole), two 141 Flood (Vg-Ex and Vg+), and 144 Bunning (Pr-Fr due to pinhole). Missing the following fifty-eight cards for completion of a second set: #6, 27, 37, 69, 73, 74, 75, 77, 78, 79, 80, 82, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, 89, 90, 91, 94, 95, 97, 98, 99, 100, 102, 103, 105, 106, 107, 109, 110, 111, 112, 113, 115, 116, 117, 118, 120, 121, 122, 124, 125, 126, 128, 129, 130, 131, 132, 133, 134, 138, 139, 140, 142, and 144. Very attractive mid- to high-grade collection of one of the era’s most unusual and interesting issues! Total: 233 cards (set of 144, two variations, and 87 duplicates).
