Lot # 1719: 1936 R301 Overland Candy Collection (6) Including Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, and Earl Averill

Presented is an impressive collection of six R301 Overland Candy Co. wrappers, issued in 1936. This group is highlighted by Jimmie Foxx and Al Simmons. The extremely rare 1936 R301 Overland Candy set doubled as the actual wrappers for Overland Candy. Not surprisingly, these 5 x 5.25 inch paper wrappers are usually found with folds and creases. R301s are printed in various colors, with a line drawing portrait of the player, his formal name and nickname, team, position, and career summary. Tears, creases, and missing pieces are all very common with this issue due to its thin stock and method of distribution. In the case of this collection, each wrapper has been trimmed on three edges (all except the tops), including the removal of the Overland Candy Co. advertisements along the bottoms. Each partial wrapper is also glued to a paper backing. The appearance from the fronts is Fair to Good overall. The collection is composed of the following: Averill (HOF), Berger, Foxx (HOF), Kowalik, Leslie, and Simmons (HOF). This is a very unusual, rare, and overlooked 1930s issue. Total 6 wrappers.
