Presented is a rarely offered and very attractive near-complete set of the classic 1940 Play Ball set issued by Gum, Inc. consisting of 235 different cards (out of 240 in a complete set). Missing the following five cards for completion: #6 Gomez, 27 Williams, 30 Berg, 225 Jackson, and 235 McGraw. With all the Hall of Famers and rare high-number series cards (#181 thru 240), the number of noteworthy cards in this set rivals the number of common cards. 1940 Play Ball has always been a difficult set, and the rarity of complete or even near-complete sets has been underappreciated. Condition is 92% Vg to Vg-Ex (including a couple Ex) and 8% lesser.
