Description

Graded VG 3 by PSA. Very attractive 1888 N173 Goodwin Old Judge cabinet card featuring Hall of Famer John Ward (#478-7 pose) of the New York Giants. This is the ONLY example of this card graded by PSA to date! Ward is recognized as one of the most important and influential players of the nineteenth century. In addition to being a star pitcher and later a standout shortstop for the New York Giants during the 1880s, he was also one of Major League Baseball's few true scholars. Ward was a college graduate (Penn State), and he later earned a law degree from Columbia. In 1890, Ward led the short-lived renegade Players League. The offered card features superb photo clarity and even corner wear. Foxing and small moisture stains are visible on the front, while the blank reverse is mostly clean. This is an extremely high-quality Old Judge cabinet card of Hall of Famer John Ward.
