Presented are two near-complete Topps Super sets, from 1970 and 1971, highlighted by many Hall of Famers and stars including Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and Roberto Clemente. This collection consists of the following: 1) 1970 Topps Super Near-Complete Set (39/42): 33% Nr/Mt or better, 49% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 18% Vg to Vg-Ex. Keys: #5 Seaver (Vg), 8 Bench (Nr/Mt), 12 Clemente (miscut centering on reverse, otherwise Ex-Mt), 18 Mays (Vg+ due to spot of paper loss on reverse), 24 Aaron (Ex), 28 Jackson (Nr/Mt), 34 Rose (wax on reverse, otherwise Ex-Mt), 37 F. Robinson SP (Vg-Ex), and 38 Powell SP (Ex). Missing the following three cards for completion: #21 Santo, 39, and 41. 2) 1971 Topps Super Near-Complete Set (62/63): 45% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 39% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 26% Vg to Vg-Ex (including two lesser and six miscut). Keys: #20 Rose (Vg+), 32 Bench (Ex), 37 Clemente (Nr/Mt), 38 Jackson (Ex-Mt), 44 Aaron (Nr/Mt-Mt), 53 Seaver (Ex-Mt due to centering), and 56 Mays (Ex-Mt). Missing only #62 for completion. Because of their high-quality production values and scarcity relative to other Topps sets of the era, it is a little surprising that these issues have not received more attention from collectors, but this is primarily because for many years grading companies did not have holders for this large-format issue. This is no longer the case, and collectors have started building sets of these cards in graded form just like they've done for many years with standard-sized cards. A very attractive pair of near-complete sets with several notable highlights. Total: 101 cards.
