Lot # 2748: 1910 T220 Mecca Champions Boxing Complete Set (50) Plus 87 Duplicates and Seven Silver Borders

Presented is a very substantial collection of T220 Mecca Champions boxing cards consisting of a complete 50-card set, 87 duplicates, and seven silver-border examples. The T220 set exclusively features boxers and is one of several tobacco-card sets issued during the 1910 era that depict champion athletes and prizefighters. Compared to baseball cards of the era, these early boxing cards, which are at least as scarce, represent a particularly outstanding value. Includes the following eighty-seven duplicates: Three Barry, two Beecher, Burke, two Burns, Choynski, two Coburn, three Y. Corbett, six Cross, Dempsey, three Dixon, two Donovan/World Champ of the 60's, three Donovan/of today, two Driscoll/Glover, Edwards, Erne, two Frayne, Gans, Goldman, two Goodman, Griffo, four Hart, four Heenan, Heenan/Sayers, Jackson, three Jordan, five Klaus, three Mace, two Mace/King, Maher, two McAuliffe, McCoy, two McGovern, Mitchell, two Moore, O'Brien, two Randall/Belasco, three Randall/Turner, two Ryan, Sharkey, two Sullivan, Sullivan/Kilrain, two Wagner, and two Welsh. The condition of the complete set is 28% Vg-Ex or slightly better, 62% Gd to Vg, and 10% lesser. Condition of the duplicates is 58% Gd to Vg (including a couple Vg-Ex) and 42% Pr to Fr. Keys: Two Burke (Vg-Ex and Gd+), three Coburn (Vg, Gd+, and Gd), J. Corbett (Fr), four Dixon (two Gd and two Pr-Fr), Fitzsimmons (Fr), two Gans (Vg and Pr), two Jackson (Vg-Ex and Gd), Jeffries/Sharkey (Pr), two Sullivan/Kilrain (Vg and Pr), and three Sullivan (Gd+, Fr, and Pr). Silver Borders: Carney (Pr-Fr), Coburn (Vg+), Choynski (pencil mark on reverse, otherwise Gd+), Frayne (Vg+), McGovern (Vg+), Ryan (Vg-Ex), and Randall/Belasco (Pr due to missing lower-right corner). This is a very attractive and substantial collection of cards from one of the most classic boxing-card tobacco sets of the early twentieth century, highlighted by a complete set and seven scarce silver-border examples.
